What the heck is he making now? Yeah…chocolate salami.
This after dinner treat or dessert is like the better known “mosaico” or “kormo”.
Basically it’s chocolate, sweetener and broken biscuits. One could add nuts or dried fruit in the mix too!
This is an easy and delicious treat and I like it with Santorini Vinsanto after a meal.

450 gr. of petit beurre style cookies
1/3 cup roughly chopped walnuts
1 cup of butter
2 Tbsp. cocoa powder
1 (14oz) can of sweetened condensed milk
2 cups chopped dark chocolate (70%)
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 cup Metaxa or brandy
Directions
- Snap the cookies roughly in half and place in a large bowl along with the walnuts and set aside.
- Empty butter, cocoa and condensed milk into a medium pot over medium heat until it just comes to a boil.
- Add the chocolate, vanilla, brandy and salt and let stand for a minute. Now mix with a whisk until thickened.
- Pour the chocolate mixture into the bowl with the cookies and mix with a rubber spatula.
- Let stand for 15 minutes to firm up.
- Roll out a sheet of parchment paper and empty your chocolate mix on it. Shape into a 12 inch log and wrap with parchment and place in the fridge overnight.
- The next day, roll in icing/powdered sugar before serving (I even tied it with butcher’s twine for a real salami look).
- Slice and serve with a fortified wine, like a Santorini Vin Santo.
Notes
- This treat goes well with a scoop of your favourite ice cream.
