Through some mutual friends, I had the pleasure of being introduced to Elizabeth and Christos, owners of the Kingston Road (Scarborough) location of Big Boy’s. Toronto (and many cities) is still enjoying the proliferation of burger joints.
The burger as you knew it is gone, no more big chain burger joints on the radar. It’s all about the meat, how it’s cooked (grilled or flat-top) and I’m always impressed by the creativity in the toppings offered on a burger.
Elizabeth and Christos love sharing their food as much as creating these epic burgers. Patty sizes come in 1/4 and 1/2 pounders, then you can can double burgers, bacon, cheese, caramelized onions and that’s just the beginning.
If you’re looking for a health-conscious meal, it’s not going to be at a burger joint. Places like Big Boys are an indulgence and when done in moderation, you’ll be just fine.
The first time I went to Big Boys I ordered a a classic Banquet Burger – you know: bacon, cheese, tomato, relish, onions and pickles.
The burgers get epic – here’s the Gold Medal Burger, on the menu during the Sochi Winter Olympics.
By now all of you have heard about the antics of Toronto’s Rob Ford. His worship loves to eat and drink and Big Boys came up with the Rob Ford Burger…bacon, peameal bacon, 1/2lb. burger, cheese, caramelized onions, fried egg.
This is a Greek-owned establishment and you can order souvlaki or their take on a Philly Cheesesteak.
What’s a burger joing without poutine? Quebec’s gift to the food world has been adored and imitated by many and here, we have poutine with cheese curds and a smoky pulled pork and BBQ sauce.
Although I have not tried this (yet), there is the Mac Attack…a burger topped with ooey-gooey macaroni and cheese…and bacon!
There’s also some offerings if you have room for dessert: you can try the deep-fried Mars bar or battered and fried Oreo cookies.
Big Boys in located at 2851 Kingston Road in Scarborough and it’s open Monday to Friday 11-8pm and Saturday 11-7pm. Sunday’s closed.
The poutine is killing me….
