You have to eat your vegetables. One of the most nutritious, affordable and delicious vegetables is broccoli. It’s loaded with vitamins A, C and K, a good source of fiber. It’s a boon to your immune system and and beneficial for the prevention of heart disease. Another positive for broccoli is that it’s available in most markets all year ’round, it’s affordable and it’s listed as one of those vegetables where you don’t have splurge on the “organic” variety.
I do love a good cream of broccoli soup or a gratin but my favourite way to enjoy broccoli is simply to steam it until fork-tender, season with coarse sea salt and drizzle with Greek extra-virgin olive oil. I’ve been enjoying the Kalikori olive oil of late. Squeeze some fresh lemon juice, gently toss the broccoli to dress it thoroughly and you’ll have one of the most enjoyable warm salads/side dishes ever! Really.

I like mine stir fried Chinese style that retains its crunchiness or simply steam it to just cooked and eat it plain with rice or pasta. :)
LOOKS YUMMY !
My mother always boiled it and dressed it in olive oil and lemon juice. Delish! Anything else would just seem weeeeeeird.
You can make even steamed broccoli look like a special treat. I like it as you do, but sometimes put in some crushed red pepper flakes.
I have come to realize late in life that I will love most foods if they are prepared in such a way as I will enjoy them…take for example my loathing for brussel spouts…very nice shredded and sauteed.
There are many ways to eat this highly nutritious vegetable but I’m with you Peter by simply steaming, add sea salt, freshly ground pepper & extra virgin olive oil. Delicious!
…and since I have a ton of broccoli I will heed your post; a great one I might add. All too often we do so much to change our foods, rather than enjoy each ones flavorful simplicity. ;-)
Greek cuisine is based on olive oil. No wonder why everything taste much better.
I love steamed broccoli! So healthy and delicious!
I love my brocolli like this too Petah! For a variation, I slap it on a hot grill for a few minutes each side to get a char grilled flavour! YUM!!
So green and beautiful! I had a starter at a fancy restaurant recently that consisted of steamed broccoli in a well-flavoured shallot vinaigrette. It was so delicious!
i think this is the simplest dish i’ve ever seen on your blog, and it’s a doozie. :)
Broccoli is one of my favorite vegetables! It’s so versatile and easy to make all sorts of variations with. This looks delicious Peter!
I am completely, madly in love with broccoli, and I cannot understand why people hate it so much. I agree with you that lemon juice and olive oil poured over fresh broccoli is just the perfect dish. My three kids were very reluctant to eat broccoli until I added a little dash of Kikkoman soy sauce to the lemon-juice and olive oil dressing: now they love it and they eat it every day. Regards, Juno.
Peter, I am not exactly sure why I never thought of drizzling olive oil on broccoli, but that’s brilliant! I love it stir fried with some mushrooms and green onions MMMMMMM!
