Dimitri is a writer, producer and director who I’ve had the pleasure to meet and work with two years ago. I was first approached by Dimitri, who follows this blog about shooting a cooking demo. We agreed that the cooking segment should take place during my summer vacation in Greece and that we would test the waters out with the video.

Dimitri and his cast crew worked with me for a whole day on capturing three recipes, one of which you can see on the right side bar of this blog. Dimitri is passionate about all his projects and from what I remember of the long day of filming, he kept his eye on the ball and focused on the project.

I recently had a chance to catch up with Dimitri over the holidays and as Greeks often do – food always sneaks into the conversation. Here’s Bits & Bites with Dimitri:

Q. You have $10 for a quick lunch – where would you go?

A. Chinese in Astoria right across Citibank, Ditmars Boulevard. Le Pain Quotidien on Santa Monica promenade in Los Angeles.

Q. The last meal you cooked at home was?
A. Linguine with shrimps and mussels…
Q. What dish for you sums-up Greek cuisine?
A. Lamb with potatoes in the oven.
Q. Your friends are treating you for a dinner at a restaurant – sky’s the limit – where/what would you choose?
A. Ethos Restaurant in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Fresh seafood brought in daily and prepared the Greek way.
Q. Sometimes we have long days and we’re too tired to cook, what would you order for take-out or delivery?
A. Shrimp with broccoli. Lobster Cantonese style.
Q. What was the last meal you cooked at home was?
A. Linguine with my sauce.
Q. Do you have a favorite drink or beverage?
A. Vodka straight up. Root beer.
Q. What’s your favourite store for grocery/food shopping?
A. Whole Foods, Manhattan.
Q. Do you have any interesting/funny/amusing stories about the food that is catered for movie/film sets?
A. Food is a top priority on movie sets because prople work long hours. If the catering is problematic is a living nightmare.
Q. What is your favourite dessert?
A. Tiramisu. Apricot tart with Mascarpone. (It’s a big list).
Q. Finally…What would your last meal be?
A. Plenty of seafood with white rice.
Writer-producer-director Dimitri Vorris starts filming DNA modification thriller “NA4U” in March.
He’s also preparing a film on Salonica Holocaust under the working title “LAND OF THE ANGELS”.
He splits his time between central Europe and LA.

  1. I like the idea of those mini interviews Peter! I hope you will have a chance to shoot with him again. BTW I think I am back now that the baby sleeps more, but I am not sure yet!
