  1. Hello, I saw one comment of yours at Joe’s blog (Italyville). I am from Roma, Italy. I have a good connection with Greece, having met my wife – a Roman too – in the marvellous island of Corfu, and, from that time, having spent 15 summers or something in those dream islands. This connection is also due to my passion for the classical world and the Greco-Roman civilization, which is the main theme of my blog. My wife having some blood from Calabria, I was telling Joe that Calabrian Greeks seem to still exist. Greek dialects were spoken extensively in Southern Italy until a few years ago but they almost disappeared during Fascism who discouraged linguistic minorities.

It might be interesting for you to know that Barlaam the Calabrian (ca. 1290 – 1348), an Italian Greek, was the instructor of both Petrarch and Giovanni Boccaccio. He helped Boccaccio to translate Homer into Latin thus preparing the groundwork for Renaissance.

I envy your cooking abilities, of which I am almost totally deprived. Your blog has taken me back into lots of memories!

    All my best regards

    Man of Roma
