Yesterday, whilst on Twitter – I was catching up on the day’s “tweets” when some of my blogging friends were cheering for the San Diego Chargers in the match-up against the Indiannopolis Colts.

For those living outside of North America, yesterday the NFL (American Football) kicked off it’s playoffs and bars are filled with men and many wives and girlfriends are orphaned for the next few weeks as the men in their lives are pre-occupied with this sport.

Kelly of Sass & Veracity was taunting and refusing to accept my prediction that the Colts would be victorious. None of my male bravado or sports handicapping was of use as San Diego defeated Indianopolis in an overtime 23-17 win. I lost a bet, I eat humble pie – I am the goat.

Here’s where the homage starts…

The San Diego Chargers are awesome, they are excellent sporting specimens and any team that stands in their way of a Superbowl title will be surely trampled by their mighty momentum.

The City of San Diego
is one of the best cities one could live in: it’s located in Southern California, bordering Mexico and on the Pacific Coast, desert on the other end and mountains hugging the other… How can anyone say no to year’ round good climate?

Upon reading up on San Diego, I get the vibe that San Diego is also a mecca for some good eats with an array of cuisines and restaurants that can suit every budget.

Watersports? San Diego. Nightlife? San Diego has array of bars, restaurants and nightclubs and even some Broadway shows! Sports? San Diego has hiking the mountains, tons of golf courses and of course, the San Diego Chargers.

The best reason why anyone would go to San Diego is the people. You will be greeted with the warm hospitality, kind of like the ocean breeze that will breath on you and remind you that you’re nowhere near any place as cold as Indianapolis!

The American football playoffs have begun, try and catch a game and use this a moment to invite some friends and share some food and engage in some friendly rivalries.

Drop by my place, you’ll have a large platter of Buffalo-style chicken wings waiting for you!

  1. to be honest, i’ve never been to an organised sports match, but I hope I’m still welcome to some of those Buffalo-style chicken wings!

  2. Haha! Don’t know anything about American footbal but those chicken wings sure look delicious so I can learn LOL.

  3. I am so clueless when it comes to American sports, especially American football (shame)! I don’t think I mind to watch it a little bit here and there if they serve delicious looking chicken wing like this.
    Cheers,
    Elra

  4. I admit I’m not a big football fan, but the University of Utah also had a big game over the weekend! Go Utes!

Good for you Peter, for being a good sport about it! The San Diego bloggers are definitely excited!

  5. You are an officer and a gentleman, Peter, and I bow to you on this day. Thanks for speaking so kindly of Paradise — it is truly a lovely place. And the Chargers? Well, we’re grinning ear to ear here over the win. The buffalo wings look amazing, so that only makes everything perfect. Totally grinning…

  6. I’ve lived in Indianapolis and visited San Diego and I can tell you that San Diego is by far the better city.
Those wings look really delicious too!

  7. Oh, I am bummed. I fell asleep and didn’t see the end of the game but I was really hoping for a brother against brother superbowl. But today I must cheer for the Birds. Happy football watching!

  8. Sorry you lost your bet Peter. I live close to San Diego, it is a great place. It is also fun to go to Mexico from there, just a short drive and you are in a whole different world. Wings sound great, I cannot believe I have never made them myself!

  9. Peter, can you predict if Canada will win the World Junior tomorrow?

Great wings. Perfect for that kind of weather.

  10. That’s so funny that you had to do that hahah.

But you know what? All of it’s true! San Diego is a wonderful, beautiful, artsy, friendly city with a great variety of fresh foods of all sorts of cuisines. I miss living down there sometimes – I spent 4½ years there before moving north to Orange County.

I am not, however, a Chargers fan, so… eh, whatever hehehe.

  11. Go Chargers!!! SD is an incredible city I loved living there for a few years and miss it everyday!!

  12. Ah, let the games begin! San Diego is gorgeous … almost everyday is graced with sunshine! Um, recipe for the wings, please!

  13. I’m not that big into football, but I was pulling for the Chargers. It’s nice to see different teams make the play offs…maybe one day my Saints will make it past their first playoff game ~sigh~. I tried your seared and braised chicken and changed it up just a tad. It was super! I’m hoping to post it this week.

  14. My men love the playoffs, and I’m sure the wings will be out in full force next weekend, but I’m still a little sad for Peyton Manning that he lost. A Peyton-Eli matchup would have been awesome! However, here in the snowy northeast, there are plenty of people looking for an all Pennsylvania superbowl!

  15. Ahhh yaahhh San Diego …. ok, i can’t pretend. i live an hour from San Diego and had no idea they had won until i read your post … don’t tell anyone. But I agree with everything else you’ve said — San Diego is an awesome awesome city!

    Happy New Year!

  22. I live in Chicago, and ironically the only one cheering for San Diego at the bar on Sat night. You’d think they’d all hate the Colts for beating the Bears a couple years back, but….
    Anyways, go Chargers!!!

  23. Giants fan here but I did see the San Diego game and it was a good one.
And after seeing these wings you’ve served up, I can’t wait for Superbowl Sunday so I can serve some up myself!

  24. Hooray for San Diego!! You eat your humble pie well :-) Thanks for your great write-up of America’s Finest City!

  25. Sorry, but I do not understand American football at all … but I love the European one — know even more than any of my male friends / husband/ brother-in-law…. so be careful! I know what the soccer fever is about! I love the tension and the shock at the end.

  26. I can’t believe the Colts lost the game. I actually was debating putting a couple friends of mine on suicide watch after the game.

Granted I love San Diego but I am an Indiana boy and well have to go for the home team every time.

    Oh well always next year.

  27. Sports are a bit of a mystery to me – more so American sports!! Great post though – I ADORED San Diego when I visited and it’s on my shortlist of cities where I deram of living in the US :)

  28. Okay… so you lost a bet. And you HAT to say that… But San Diego is far from a bad place! It is pretty damn nice and the people ARE laid back, cool and interesting.

Now to the wings. If they are good ones… I LOOOOOVVVE them! How about your recipe??? Mine isn’t bad.
