Today I leave for a long anticipated and much deserved vacation in Greece. I will be relaxing at my family’s summer home in Halkidiki, heading down to Greece’s capital, Athens and also visiting the Greek island of Sifnos.
Later in the vacation I will also head up to my parents’ towns in Florina and then back to my summer home and finally an overnight stay in Vienna, Austria on my way back to Canada.
I will be swimming, tanning, cooking, sampling new dishes, playing “catch up” with family and friends and making some new friends!
I’m looking forward to meeting some new friends, brought to me by the miracle of blogging and so far I’ve found the food blogging community to be full of genuine and hospitable people.
I should be back in Canada in the first week of September but that might get pushed back another week.
Even though I will be on vacation, I will also be in the thick of it with blog-related activities. In my goal to showcase Greek cuisine, I want to also enlighten you all on Greece’s excellent wines.
I have three wine tours scheduled during my vacation and when I’m back, I will share my experiences with you and expand on Greek wines.
Another task at hand is a long awaited surprise and I think the time’s right to share with you all that I will also be spending a day in Athens filming some footage for a promotional DVD.
This past Spring, I was approached by film writer/producer/director Dimitrios Vorris. Dimitri is an avid reader of my blog and he approached me about taking the “Kalofagas” concept to another level.
After a lengthy exchange of ideas and an agreement about our approach, we agreed to meet this summer in Greece and film some footage. Our goal is to attract sponsors to a show that showcases Greece’s food and drink culture with the country of Greece and it’s people as the backdrop.
I am very excited to commence this phase of my blog and although this is very early in the game, it’s going to be a lot of fun!
During my absence, I will not be posting any new entries on the blog but I encourage you to visit my Greek blogging friends’ sites, as found in my food blog links.
I want to thank all of my regular readers for providing me with support, encouragement, food inspiration and wonderful humanity.
My biggest thanks go out to all those who went out on a limb to try out some of the dishes from Kalofagas. Getting word that a dish from this blog was enjoyed is the greatest satisfaction I get from blogging.
I’ll be back in September rested, recharged, full of new stories, inspiration and more great Greek food!
Have a wonderful, relaxing and safe vacation, Peter! I’ll be looking forward to hearing all about your adventures when you return.

Congratulations Peter on the film thing – I’m sure it will be a great success – I hope you still do this blog when you become a famous TV star!
Have a fantastic holiday!
Hope you have a marvellous holiday, Peter. How great to have a full month off!
I work in the wine industry and we import a fair few Greek wines, all of which are good. My absolute favourite from our current List is actually a dessert wine from Samos. The grapes are grown at high altitude which moderates the climate meaning the grapes retain their aciditiy – vital for balance in a sweet wine. Just delicious!
Have a great time there! You are very lucky… I’d love to visit that beautiful country again!
Cheers,
Rosa
