I’ve seen some people in my blogging realm that are posting views from their kitchen and I love this idea. This is the brainchild of LuLu’s Bay from Cairo.
It’s a window on the world and a window on what us food bloggers see when in our kitchens.
As you can see, my yard faces a large park, I have bird feeder that keeps on getting pillaged by the squirrels and…lot’s of snow.
I’m extending an invite for anyone who wants to come over for a BBQ…pick your seat!
I also want to share my weekend indulgence with you…a big breakfast fry-up. I do bacon & eggs, buttered toast, a glass of orange juice and coffee, with some fruit to cap off a glorious breakfast.
For the record, margarine sucks.
therwise, it’s olive oil or in this case, butter for breakfast…and why not? I do my bacon in the microwave between paper towels…no grease and they’re done to a crispy finish.
My eggs need butter. I put one dab of butter, when I hear a sizzle I add my eggs, season with salt and as you can see, a sprinkle of smoked paprika gives eggs sunnyside up a new brilliance.
I cover my fry pan with a plate to cook the top part of my eggs, time my toasts to pop-up just at that moment when my eggs are ready. A crack of fresh black pepper and breakfast is served.
I head to the TV set, put my feet on the table and dip my toast in runny egg yolks, sip my juice, eat some bacon, then repeat.
Bottom line:
Margarine blows and EVERYTHING’S better with butter.
(My recent physical at my family doctor has given me a clean bill of health with low blood pressure, low cholestrol, normal blood-sugar).
My type of breakfast. The subsitutes and alternative will kill you faster.everything in moderation. My view from my kitchen is a brick wall of the next building across the alley. City living!
Love the red bird outside your kitchen window – have never seen anything like it before. However, I must decline the BBQ invitation, at least until the spring thaw – this looks seriously like Narnia when the White Witch ruled! Great looking eggs though. I don’t have strong feelings on the butter vs marg debate because I rarely eat either as a spread – I generally just bake with it, and butter wins hands down for that.
I was going to ask: when did Toronto get sunny and green and the next photo showed the foot of snow that I was expecting. That breakfast looks nice and tasty.
He, he, that’s the kind of food my husband and daughter LOVE!!! They could live on fried eggs and bacon!
My husband fries the eggs and leaves some “puntillas” that’s the way we eat them here: the white should be… (my vocabulary is not rich enough, don’t know how to say that, sorry) I will post about it some day :D
I like the idea of the kitchen view, I’ll also show you what I see.
Margarine is one of the worst food inventions. I use olive oil, even in a lot of my baked goods. Vegetable oil is second and used only when frying chips for my bloke. I’ll have to remember to take a photo out my kitchen door. That’s a great idea :)
Haha! I couldn’t agree more about margarine – it is only useful for grilled cheese.
Hey, I made a totally Dionysian brekkie today too – breakfast burger (pork sausage patty topped with bacon, sharp cheddar, fried onions and mushrooms, and a fried egg over easy on top on a whole-wheat hamburger bun). Aka the brekkie to end all brekkie, aka the heart attack special. I’ll post it tomorrow.
I’d accept an invitation to breakfast at your house anytime, Peter!
Lovely view from your kitchen, too!
Ah… enfin! I get to see yours ;-) He’s quite a handsome fellow. Eggs and butter are fine too.
We live in the middle of a dessert, and I remember how excited (and shocked) I was the first time I saw a red cardinal in my yard. I RAN for the camera.
The eggs look yummy. I still indulge occasionally. I think a really good, fresh egg from time to time is what stands between me and veganism!
You make me sick with your perfect looking eggs.
Margarine does suck. Butter is better.
Now that is absolutely my kind of breakfast… Are you sure you can manage all that yourself? ;)
Nice view from your kitchen window. Your deck looks like mine.
I’ve been reading your recent posts. I am now very hungry.
(thanks for visiting my blog)
LOL – the contrast between the bird pic and the snow pic! wow – we have been talking about running this meme again when the ‘big thaw’ comes so that we can see ‘the other’ view… thanks for taking part… I have added you to the blogroll. Now about that breakfast invitation…..
Glam, I couldn’t have said it better.
Cake, the red bird is a cardinal and there’s also a female partner cardinal that comes around (not seen).
Kevin, the sunny pic is actually from January and obviously the snowy pic is recent.
Nuria, fried huevos rock!
Maryann, I’d like to see your kitchen view…do it!
Louise, I told you I’d post the Upper Canada cardinal!
Michelle, I’ll try & capture a blue jay pic in the summer.
Emiline, I’m flattered and…I won’t say you suck…you’ll get propositions! ;)
Forkful, no sharing of this brekkie, git yer own!
Beth, thanks for popping by, good to “meet” another TO blogger.
Peter, Whenever we go out for breakfast here, I always order the same thing, it’s called Ka Ya Na, its greek, for what, I don’t know! All I know is that I love the combo of onions, tomatoes, and feta with eggs, I’m hoping you will do a post on this soon,(hint hint) I’ll be watching!Besides I would love to learn how to make it the right way.I do think your smoked paprika looks pretty on the eggs though! Nice view too!
I cook my bacon in the microwave as well Peter…way less mess and cleanup too! I love the view from your kitchen window. It would be inspiring for me to look out at the bird feeder each morning to see who has visited. I am looking forward to the hummingbirds.
Lovely view, I can’t even see out my window, I’m too short!
I’ll skip the bacon, but those eggs are cooked to perfection! I’m starving right now and I shouldn’t be looking at tempting pictures of food!
Lovely view – might put off that barbecue for a couple of months though :-)
And that last photo is my idea of a good brekkie. Margarine is just sort of sinister – butter wins every time in this house.
I just noticed a cardinal today! It looks like the birds are starting to make their nests here, getting ready for spring. The eggs looks fantastic! I love a good fried egg!
Hey, I’m up for a BBQ, better get shoveling! What’s grilling,anyway? :)
Guess what, my children had exactly the same breakfast this morning. You know what, I think stress and a negative spirit makes people sick and you have such a lovely nature that enjoying all the joys of food and fat etc will affect your health.
Ps. My father is 72 – he smoked for almost 40 years of his life, he eats the rind and leaves the pork and dips his bread in sausage fat – he is healthy and full of joy.

Dibs on one of the two chairs that look out into the yard. Definitely a better view than me.
Peter your view is lovely, the birds are so sweet. I’d love to come to breakfast, thank you :-)
What a lovely view! I make my sunny-side up eggs the same exact way! My very Italian Dad taught me how. He made them for me every Sunday.
Ohmagooooodness I sure don’t miss that snow! But I’d love to visit and have some mezze at your patio table in the summer! :) Now that we’ve moved my kitchen has no window. How awful is that? :( I have a door to my laundry room with a triangle of view to the outside…but man, it’s just a building and some palm trees. Yuck.
I beg to differ. There is no reason to use margarine ever. Not even on grilled cheese sandwiches. Correction: especially not on grilled cheese sandwiches.
Butter, olive oil or nothing as far as I’m concerned. (Although… I have been putting goat’s cheese instead of butter on toast in the morning – it’s very satisfying.)
Your breakfast looks good – the only change I’d make for me is to cook the eggs “broken and over hard” with melted cheddar on top.

You have a wonderful view from your kitchen window. Your breakfast looks so good and I love fried eggs even if I make them with olive oil. However I have been having a conversation with my doctor lately and he told me that the eighties theory that shortening raises cholesterol is not truth and I shall reconsider adding some in my cooking. Even the theory about eggs has changed.
